After wrapping up our last day in Siem Reap we hopped a bus down to the capitol city of Phnom Penh. Much of this flat, Mekong Delta countryside which is usually full of bright green rice fields was all dried up and brown as it’s currently the dry season. Nonetheless, watching traffic on road 6 was enough to keep my mother entertained as well as her adrenaline going. Let’s just say, Will and I feel safest travelling via bus in this country….mostly because it’s the biggest vehicle on the road. Bus drivers have had to slam on the breaks every once in a while for a water-buffalo crossing …but again, the bus is the largest vehicle on the road, and let’s just say that that’s what we feel safest riding.
No need to waste time on this vacation. We kept busy by showing the folks the Peace Corps office of course, the Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda. We took a break for lunch at the KFC (we were due for some western food). Then spent the afternoon at Wat Phnom.
