Finally for our last day of Cambodian temple touring we went to Banteay Srei. “This one is considered the jewel in the crown of Angkorian art. It’s a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and is cut from a pinkish colored stone- and contains some of the finest stone carving seen anywhere on the planet. They say construction of this complex began in 967, and was one of the few temples not to be commissioned by a king, but by a Brahman who may have been a tutor to Jayavarman V. Almost every inch of the interior of these buildings are covered in carved decorations.”
This one was much smaller than the rest; but the detail that was carved into every corner was immaculate. How it has stood over weather and time, I’m not sure….but it was a very impressive place.

The visit to Banteay Srei concluded our trips to the temples. We covered a fair amount of ground, but certainly not everything. Nonetheless we weren’t disappointed with what we were able to see and have to say that these temples stand up to all the hype that they well deserve. What a time to be Cambodian.
