spiders and such

So there are these large spiders in this country. I suppose I should do some research on them to see if they’d actually do any harm to anyone other than the insects less superior than them. Their mere size and ugliness is enough to get me standing on a chair in the middle of the room to make sure my bare feet are nowhere them when they are crawling around the floor. Boy they can move fast.

Will’s mom was asking me if at our new place we still had creepy crawly creatures in it (since we’re now on the main floor and it’s tiled and nice). Well- the answer is, Yes. We still do have these large spiders creeping around.

I just had to take a time out from my education entry to call Will to the room to put to the death yet another long legged spider. He slipped on his loafers, grabbed the hand broom and I pointed to where it was at. It’s a quick moving insect and he had to take several swings, which scared it behind the laundry basket – and then when he cornered it he was able to take one hard strike at it and be done with it. It was almost as good as watching an intense fencing match.

Friday morning, I was in for a surprise when I went to grab some toilet paper while in the bathroom. On the holder- there is a plastic cover that protects the tp from getting wet. When I went to lift up the cover to grab a few sheets, to my surprise – was yet another one of these creatures, right on the top of the roll. I calmly, but sternly blurted out a PG13 swear word and said to Will the command sentence, “get in here, now.” I left the room and listened to the hand broom smack the floor several times and above is the digital macro zoom of the spider on the handbroom.

I don’t know. It’s ugly enough for me to not want it crawling on me while I sleep. We think that we’ve spotted fangs on it. I guess I’m not positive of the anatomy of the thing, and I suppose I should do some research as to whether or not it’s poisonous or anything. But our host dad did say that it can bite. So I guess pretty much I don’t want to upset it without knowing that it will be dead in a few minutes, but I do know that I don’t mind it being dead.

Lately, I find myself taking a lot of double-takes any time I think I see something out of the corner of my eye. Is it a spider? Is it a lizard? Is it a mouse? Is it a rat? Is it a scorpion? Is it a snake? I guess 80% of the time I don’t actually see anything – but sometimes my peripheral vision comes to my rescue so I can alert my dear husband to help me rid of the thing. I’m so glad he’s here with me. 

Steph-
With you and Will killing those spiders one by one, you are doing me a favor. By the time Mike and I go to Cambodia all the spiders will be gone. So thanks!
