So we’re supposed to get mail delivered from Phnom Penh once a month. For some reason they delayed our November delivery – until the 23rd of this month. But you know the saying, ‘good things happen to those who wait?’ Well this time was worth waiting. It was like Christmas. We got three letters, one from friends and two grandparents. We got the books we ordered from Peace Corps. And last but not least, we got three care packages. One from my folks, one from Will’s sisters Lisa and Laura, and one from a college friend of mine, Suzanne. It was wonderful. Something is so nice about getting actual mail from people. In the packages we found things like snickers bars, trail mix, starburst, chocolate candy, hair ties & clips, a magazine and notepad, Gatorade drink mix, ear plugs and some very nice letters. I guess having the mail pile up in PP for a little while and allowing it to add up really makes it fun to open it all when we finally get it in our hands.
Isn’t the whole mail system a wonder? I mean, the fact that they can get a package or letter from one part of the globe, into the hands of another person on the opposite side of the globe is really truly amazing. There’s a lot of trust out there in order to make that happen.
Of course mistakes do happen, AS apparently we have yet to receive two packages that we were told were sent. Perhaps they were sent to Mongolia on accident and they are on their way right now? Actually that happened to me already, I received a letter from my grandparents earlier this year, and on the front of the envelope was a stamp that said, “Mis-sent to Mongolia”. So that type of stuff happens. But the fact that the letter still made it to my hands is pretty amazing.
Anyways- thanks to all for the mail and packages. Always so fun to get something you can hold onto.
