I’ve been pleased to see that our host mom has taken to studying some English. The past few afternoons, she has come around the corner with her Khmer/English picture dictionary, and we’ll go over some vocabulary pronunciation for about an hour and then discuss a few things.
Then the other day, she brought me into her kitchen and low and behold she had a large piece of paper taped to the wall with a lot of new vocabulary and their phonetic pronunciations. She went on to tell me that she multi-tasks: while cooking and doing the dishes she also is studying the new vocab.
I think I should give that methodology a try.
