Back in the Midwest

Well we packed up our lives in Big Sky and made the trek back home this last Monday. The prairie was green the entire way back; a nice change of pace. There was also this really, really dark cloud to the north that followed us from the eastern edge of Montana all the way to Pierre. 20 minutes after we arrived, the sirens were blowing and we found ourselves in the middle of a severe thunderstorm equipt with 60mph winds, marble sized hail and plenty of rain. We were thankful to have arrived safely, prior to the storm as there would've been no place for us to go on that drive along Hwy 34. We would've just had to pull over to the side of the road, stop and take it.

I do love the first storm of the summer though; and it's always pretty awe-inspiring to see the enormous deep mid-night blue clouds form and move about over the open green prairie. So large and intimidating over the vast open space that is south dakota; yet very beautiful. At least it was cool to watch knowing that we were travelling just fast enough to know that we would be in a safe place before it hit. I could've sworn that at least one of those dancing clouds was going to turn into a twister any moment. Luckily it did not.

It was nice too to see the rolling prairie in the shade of green. It has been really dry the past few years in this area - and hopefully that'll turn around soon.

Anyhow... back home to hang out, get caught up -- and unpack. (I seem to be procrastinating in the unpacking realm as I got a little overwhelmed when I stepped in to my parent's storage room to see that half of it was already full of my stuff. Some wedding presents, some old belongings; but all of it MY stuff, and we hadn't even unloaded Big Sky yet. So yes a little overwhelming knowing I'll have to deal with it one of these days. Or maybe in two years).

It can wait until tomorrow...

: )

All for now.... and Goodnight
