Before we left . . .

BEFORE WE LEFT

So we've been road warriors for the last month. I type as we're on I90 headed back to my folks place. Visited my brother in Sioux Falls last night and the last two and a half weeks were spent in Milbank, Pelican Rapids, Vernon Center, Mankato, Duluth, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, St. Paul and back to Vernon Center and then Sioux Falls. I visited my grandparents and went to Ben's wedding (an old childhood friend) up in Pelican Rapids. Drove to Vernon Center to spend some time with Will's family. Will spent a fair amount of his time working on a bedroom set for us. He's got the headboard complete (I just have to put a few more coats of tung & lunseed oil on it) and then next time he's back he'll finish up the dresser. He's done a beautiful job, and it's made from butternut wood. Now all we need is a house to put it in! I worked on stripping, sanding and refinishing a small antique butterfly leaf table. Hung out with Will's cousins Brian and Evie and their family for a bit. On a Tuesday morning, I smashed my finger in a door pretty good and am pretty sure I will be losing that fingernail somewhere in Cambodia. (I spent that day on the couch watching old episodes of grey's anatomy.) We also went to see Dave in Mankato where he grilled up some delicious fresh halibut that he caught while visiting Zac in Alaska. I went up to Duluth on a Wednesday to visit my old roommate Kari. We reminised in the town and had a fun time just like old times. Then Will and his folks came up and we stayed at his sister Lisa's house and cheered her on when she ran Grandma's Marathon - quite a feat.

After that we headed up north to the boundary water canoe area. What a beautiful place to go back to! We spent three nights there on Bald Eagle Lake...took a day trip up the Isabella river... caught some walleye and northern pike...I was reminded how much mosquitos like me and how oddley enough they don't bother Will...and paddled around on some beautifully calm waters. Then we headed to MSP/ST.PAUL to see Molly, Chris, Suz, & Julia (friends from USD) for an evening of catch up and a good visit. After that we were back in Vernon to finish up the table and headboard. Celebrate Will's birthday with his folks and finished up our stay there with a visit to Will's brother's place for a grill out.

Now we're back on the good old prarie. Still green, which is nice to see; on our way to Pierre to spend some time with my folks again.

A few of my favorite highlights from this trip included picking fresh strawberries from Will's parent's garden and having strawberries and icecream, canoing on the snake river in a downpour - but actually enjoying it, catching my walleye and pike on bald eagle lake, and lastly there was one magical night at Will's place in the country ~ as there were hundreds of fireflies floating around all over. They looked like little green stars or diamonds hovering over the corn field and their yard for miles. I felt like we were on the set of a movie or something....it was amazing!

For the most part that is all I have to report. 19 days until we leave for San Francisco. We must enjoy.....

all for now, over & out.
