Point for Ming

So at our spaghetti dinner tonight, we learned from my co-teacher that our mid-wife of a host mom, Ming (as we call her), always requires the husband to be in the delivery room when she is delivering babies. He told me that she always has the husband join the process. Apparently she feels it's very important for the husband to understand the pain & suffering that women endure during childbirth. My co-teacher noted that this was the first time (out of three children) he had ever been in the delivery room when his wife was having a baby, and he was very scared and worried the entire time, but "Ming" made him do it. (She's a forceful woman, she is). I said, "good for her AND good for you! I think it IS important that men understand what women have to go through during childbirth."

So 1 point for Ming for making men watch their own babies being born (which I think is a very uncommon thing in this country). And I'll go ahead put her on my list of people to appreciate on International Women's Day (which is tomorrow by the way).

Perhaps not a typical choice topic for dinner conversation, but interesting to say the least.
